IRS Problems & Tax Notices

Most tax notices are a computer saying one number does not match another. Some are more serious. Either way, the worst thing to do is put the envelope in a drawer. We have been reading these letters for decades and we know what each one actually means and what the agency is really asking for.

What we help with

Notices and letters from the IRS, the Ohio Department of Taxation, and municipal tax departments, including proposed changes to a return, balance due notices, and requests for information.

Unfiled returns. We prepare the missing years, federal, Ohio, and city, and get you back into compliance.

Balances you cannot pay at once. We help set up an installment agreement and, where the facts support it, request penalty relief.

Audits and examinations. We organize the records, respond to the examiner, and sit with you through it.

Wage garnishments and levies, where getting the returns filed and a payment plan in place is usually the first step toward getting them released.

How it works

Bring the letter and whatever records you have to the office, or call and we will tell you what to gather. We review the notice against your return, tell you plainly whether the agency is right, and lay out the options. With your authorization we correspond with the agency on your behalf so you are not on hold with the IRS yourself.

IRS Problems & Tax Notices: common questions

I got a letter from the IRS. Should I pay it?
Not before someone reads it. Many notices are wrong or only partly right, and paying first makes a correction harder. Bring it in and we will tell you what it really says.
I have not filed in several years. Can you help?
Yes. Unfiled returns are routine for us. We reconstruct the income from IRS transcripts and your records, prepare each year, and work out a plan for any balance.
Can you talk to the IRS for me?
Yes. With a signed authorization we correspond with the IRS and the state on your behalf.
